Original wine-gum tone wall tiles and the well-worn Victorian gothic bar (lit by globe pendants) produce an agreeably down-at-heel Dickensian vibe. The Racketeer is now more cocktail bar than pub.
This neighbourhood cocktail bar and bottle shop is located moments from King's Cross, this fresh new venture is popular with the after-work crowd and includes outdoor seating as well as a secret garden at the rear.
This is somewhere to dip, not too deeply, into your own pocket for well-executed cocktails, Boulevardier, Matador, and Army & Navy (a Beefeater gin and almond syrup Sour). Sample too the dark warmth of Black Spice, a peppery pick-me-up of Rittenhouse 100 rye whiskey and dry sherry. Charcuterie and cheese platters help alleviate hunger pangs; accompany them with draught craft ales from Neckstamper and Purity breweries, or the quirky yet accessible wine list. An on-site bottle shop adds to the appeal so you can take home most of what you please as does the weeny walled garden at the rear.
